What happens to frogs who park illegally? They get toad.
What did one hat say to the other? You stay here, I'll go on ahead!
What company does not want better employee performance, higher retention rates and upbeat employees? These are just some of the possible outcomes when you can laugh at work and they're all because of laughing.
The British Psychological Society suggests that workplace humour can have a very significant, overall effect on level of positivity that occurs between co-workers, as well as their managers and others who work in the same office. In studies published by the American Psychological Association, results have shown that an upbeat employee does their job better AND feels better about staying with the company.
Given that the only other place you spend 8-12 hours is your bed, it can be difficult to maintain a rewarding and relaxed life outside of the office. There are four very important criteria for a happy work life: hope, self-efficacy, resilience and optimism. In a lot of cases, a positive work environment actually starts with the administrative personnel of the company. We set the tone of the workplace by changing, first, the most negative person to not a downer and, second, by supporting and assisting the person in charge so they know that we have their back.
We also need to keep an eye out for team-building chances. Why? The team that plays together communicates more freely and works better with each other. Again, resulting in better performance and higher retention rates. And it can't be said enough, if you can laugh at work and enjoy it - you can leave your work at the door and not bring it home to obsess over.
How does you team build?
